" Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect." — Romans 12:2 (NLT)
When it comes to achieving dreams that align with God’s purpose, it usually does not start with a person changing their circumstances. It starts with a transformation of the mind. As followers of Jesus, when we renew our minds according to God’s Word, we see our dreams, challenges, and the world around us through the eyes of Jesus. Mind renewal is very important when aligning our dreams with God’s will, and there are practical steps we can take to develop this spiritual mindset.
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect." — Romans 12:2 (NLT)
The spiritual mindset that we desire is birthed from an inner change. Have you heard this phrase: change from the inside out? Well, that is exactly what we need to do if we are going to position ourselves to understand God’s will. It starts with aligning our thoughts to His Word and not from the influences of the world. In addition to pursuing God's purpose for our lives, a renewed mind facilitates personal peace and spiritual growth.
So, how can we cultivate a God-aligned mindset?
1) Immerse yourself in the Word - Make daily Bible reading and meditation a non-negotiable part of your routine. You can also use devotionals, commentaries, and Bible study groups to deepen your understanding and application of scripture. When we immerse ourselves in the Word, it keeps our thoughts aligned with God’s principles.
2) Consistently Pray - Think about how you can integrate prayer throughout your day, not just in morning or evening routines. Use prayer as a tool to submit your thoughts and worries to God and to seek His guidance continuously. As we stay in a posture of prayer, it transforms our immediate reactions and decisions, gradually aligning our desires and actions with God’s will.
3) Engage with Like-Minded Community - If you hang out with me, this is no surprise. Actively participating in a community of faith encourages spiritual growth and accountability. Share your dreams and thoughts, and allow the collective wisdom and support of the community to help shape them. I would love for you to be a part of my community, The Live Love Lead Community.
4) Reflecting and Adjusting - Regularly set aside time for reflection on your mental and spiritual growth. Assess how your renewed mind has influenced your decisions and relationships. Be prepared to make changes in your habits, relationships, or plans based on these reflections to better align with God’s directions.
In what areas of your life do you struggle most with worldly conformity? How can renewing your mind help you realign these areas with God’s purpose? Identify one biblical truth this week that you need to meditate on more deeply. Consider how this truth impacts your current dreams. I want you to even take a step and discuss this reflection with a mentor or friend for accountability.
Dear God, we ask you to reshape our thoughts and ambitions to mirror your will. Help us to surrender our dreams at your feet and craft them according to your divine blueprint. May our minds be strong fortresses of your Word, resisting worldly influences and embracing heavenly wisdom. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
Through the renewal of our minds, we not only perceive God’s will more clearly but are also empowered to act upon it, transforming our dreams from self-centered ambitions to powerful testimonies of His grace and purpose in our lives.
